Video Description
Hi! Today, the restoration of the Cavalry saber of the 19th-20th centuries of the Russian Empire. The item is not mine. The condition is average. The hilt and scabbard are missing. There is deep rust. I'm starting to restore the item. First, I dismantled what was in place of the handle. Next, to clean the rust - I used rust remover, and to neutralize the acid, I used baking soda and water. I sanded the blade manually, using only sandpaper and a polishing wheel. The entire history of the blade has been preserved on the surface. I made the handle of the saber from beech wood and brass, but I did not get the first handle because I did not take into account the dimensions. I also made the second handle out of beech, added a twist for a better grip (as it was in the original) and started creating a guard. To do this, I used brass, a pipe and a rod. It was difficult because I assembled the whole structure manually using silver and brass soldering and carving. In the end, I put everything together, glued it together and screwed it with a nut. On the back side, as it was on the St. George award weapon, I added a small cross in the form of a decoration. After drying, I treated the handle with fine sandpaper, soaked it with handmade wood wax, aged it and began to create a scabbard. I made the scabbard out of dry wood, glued, processed, pasted with natural thin dark-colored leather. I also made accessories (fittings) for the scabbard of brass, the accessories that were present on dragoon shashkas and sabers of the 19th and 20th centuries. After completing the work, I made a test that I hope you will like. Please Share This Video. Good luck! Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention! Good luck and health to everyone!
