Video Description
Hi! The rusty knife restoration today. But this knife is unknown to me. I do not know what type of knife this is, what its history is, but I liked its shape. The condition is poor, the handle is broken, deep rust, there is not enough blade width. But I'm going to restore it now. First of all, I disassembled the handle, which was primitively secured with a nut and riveted. The blade was placed in a rust remover. The guard has a wide hole covered with lead. Perhaps it was previously fixed with this lead. While the blade was being cleaned, I cleaned the guard, adjusted the shape, and closed the huge hole under the shank of the knife, soldering the hole with a cut piece of brass. Also, the guard was missing one part, which I hand-chiseled and soldered with silver. After working with the guard, I moved on to restoring the knife itself. After cleaning the rust, I put the blade in warm water with baking soda to neutralize the acid. Then I sanded and adjusted it and started restoring the blade. To do this, I used the blade of an old hand saw. I cut out the desired shape. Next, I welded a piece of steel to the knife by welding. After that, I heated the blade and added borax. And he began to forge. Having forged all the seams, I cleaned it, shaped it and tempered it in warm oil. After quenching, I carried out heat treatment and then switched to sanding. I sanded the blade with stones and sandpaper. Next, the restoration of the handle. First, I cleaned all the parts of the handle in warm water with cleaning agents. All the parts were made of plexiglass. After cleaning and sanding, I drilled the right hole in the guard for the shank of the knife and began to assemble the handle. For the handle, I added pieces of leather and brass. I glued everything together with epoxy resin and tightened it with a decorative nut. After drying, I treated the handle the next day. And gave it the right shape. I also sanded the handle with sandpaper and finally rubbed it well with oil. After that, I moved on to doing the sheath. I chose a primitive, simple scabbard. I just needed to create a case in which to store the knife itself. Furthermore, I also made a belt hanger for these sheath and, of course, a lockable strap. As usual, I conducted a test for you. I hope you enjoyed this restoration. Please don't forget to share this video. Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention! Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
