Video Description

Hi! Restoration of the rusty Karabela Saber of the Ottoman Empire. This item is from the 20th century (in my opinion). This saber is not mine. The condition of the saber is bad. The scabbard is broken, the accessories of the scabbard are dented. The blade is rusty. The saber guard is made very poorly these days. But I'll fix it all. I'm starting to recover. Indeed, it was the saber's turn to take it apart. I threw away what was left of the handle - I will make a new handle, the one that karabela should have. For the initial cleaning of the saber from rust, I put it in a rust remover and after cleaning, put the blade in water with soda to neutralize the effect of acid. The blade was sanded manually. Using cleaning products and sandpaper. But only to remove stains and even out the color. I cleaned the accessories of the scabbard and the guard with a sandblaster. Next, the leveled the brass fittings with a hammer and adjusted the edges. As I wrote above, the guard is made nowadays and is just garbage. I did not make a new one because it is not paid for, and the material and time are expensive. The guard was assembled in parts and soldered with lead, I soldered it with silver and brass, new parts made of thick metal were added. Also, my video shows the step-by-step assembly of the guard, reliable and real. Watch and use it. https://youtu.be/aWTDHF2zlig I made the handle of the karabela from beech, cutting out the shape, and then by long sanding I gave the desired bird's head. I glued the guard with epoxy resin and riveted it with two rivets through washers. As a decoration, he added "two eyes" with stones. Now it looks like a bird, for sure. I glued the scabbard, sanded, cleaned, plastered and prepared it for a leather coating. The skin I used was thin skin. I re-soldered the fittings. Next, I fixed the accessories on the scabbard, for reliability I used epoxy resin. Please share this video. Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention! Good luck and health to everyone!
